Vea Nus: To the brink and back

Vea sat in the chair with a table between him and her. It is probably a good thing too after what he just said. Right now she could not remember his name but as she sat there turning red it did not matter. There is no job in the Wyrld worth having if you had to do what the animal across the table just said she would have to for his job.

He sits there smiling as if he expects her to follow through with his request. Who would have known that when she rode through the gates of Longesburg that this is where she would find herself. In less than a week she is running out of money as the rent for storage of her mule, meals, and her small room above the bar down the street is quickly eating away her funds. A quick glance and in a week she will be broke.

As she ponders this the older man leans forward and clears his throat. “Well pretty girl do you need a job or not?” His smile says so much more.

Vea was turning red... out of anger! The youth was tired of being bullied by men that thought their coin was the only one in the Wyrld! But perhaps this man was different. Maybe he would have what's comin' to him.

She squinted her right eye at him, the green one, as if to size him up. But no size mattered. She would be the bigger one in this deal yet! Vea only wanted to seem dead-serious about the proposition. She didn't want to laugh. Funny, though, if this man thought he would get his way with her! Ha! It was difficult not to laugh.

Vea Nus was only 15 years old; but she had learned, in the few years she was a caravan guard with her mother on the High Road, that a straight face meant business. And this was only just that, after all, business. She needed the money, and the bastard sitting across from her needed a lesson!

She squinted her left eye, the brown one, to join the green into a mean stare. Then, she finally spoke.

"I don't need your job!", she slammed her voice towards the man, then finished downing her ale with one swift swig. Banging the mug back onto the table, she added, "Your job needs me!"

She allowed a half smile to escape her lips, as she lifted her feet to rest them on an empty chair next to her, "I'll do it, but I'll do it by my rules. Double the pay, and the job's as good as done." Vea turned her dual-colored eyes away from the scum of a man and began to wipe the dust off her pants. "So, what are the gritty details?"

"Well for starters you can lose that attitude" he says standing to his full height, which looks eye to Vea. "That and iffin ya can't stand to hear me say those things then you won't be able to hear the people in my bar say those things."

He waddles around to a small bar in the corner of his room and seems to soften with each step. "I got to know that the girls in my bar can handle themselves, you obviously can, but can you control your temper as well." he gets a book off the bar and turns back to Vea.

"There are some sick people's that come in here. The worst thing about it is that they have have the most money." He sighs and sits down. "So do you still want the job of working behind the bar. I personally thing you are pretty enough to get out from behind it but for that you have to go elsewhere. I don't have openings for that job there I need a bartender."

"Haha!", Vea finally laughs, "You mean, it was not truthful?! You just want me to tend the bar?! That was only a test!?"

The young girl suddenly turns serious, "I passed, then?"

She lifts her feet from the stool, and sits up straight. She looks hard at the tavern man again, and nods adamantly. "I can handle myself. I want the job", she says, wondering what's in the book (staring at it).

Vea thinks about what the older man said; about the other possible job opportunity down the road. That one seemed more interesting, and she had never worked behind a bar before. But heck, she'd never worked anywhere stationary before! And she desperately needed work, soon! And besides... if half the clients were as this man described... it may even have its quirks!

Vea flashed her dual-colored eyes at him again and smiled, "When do I start?"

OOC: Sorry for the delay

"T'night if ya want. The even'g croud arrives around the sixth hour. If ya where here around the fourth I think ya could get the lay of the bar and meet the ot'der girls. This being an early week day will make a smaller crowd for ya as well." he says smiling.

"As for ya pay. That depends on how well the night goes. I have been known to tip the bartenders pretty well in da past. The real question ya should be askin' ya'self is why none of my ot'der girls wanted the job and stayed as waitresses." he smiles a bit at that and then holds out his hand to seal the deal.
