So, what do people do for fun around here?

Apart from play-by-post, what other hobbies do people have?

Myself:

*Reading. I'm about to start Anne Bishop's Tir Alainn trilogy on a recommendation from my girlfriend.

*Warhammer & Warhammer 40K. Currently trying to get together an Eldar army. I'm also starting to paint one of the new Varghulf figures from the Vampire Counts army, just because they look fantastic.

*Table-top role-playing. I've played for the best part of the last two decades, with the last 8-10 years mostly GMing. Mainly D&D, but I've sampled a vast variety of systems and genres.

*Web-surfing. Fark , John Scalzi's Whatever , Cherie Priest's LiveJournal , and I Can Has Cheezburger? are all regular ports-of-call.

Yes, I am Geek.

Then you fit in well here at geek-haven. I as well have been a GM for 8 years but it has actually been over 8 years since I have been part of a table top game. Real life and a job have taken that time away. Still I get my 'gameing fix' through sites like this one.

As for reading I love long series. I hate to get to know the characters and bam! the book is donel. So book I love are all the R.A. Salvatore books, L.D. Modessitt Jr.'s Recluse books are great even though they are all one shots they build, Terry Brooks, Raymond Feist, David Eddings, and of course the Master himself..... Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time (sadness on his passing).

Most of my hobbies fall under the general geekiness tab too:

* Reading - mostly fantasy, and some science fiction, and a few ring-ins. Favourite authors include Anne Bishop, John Scalzi, Jacqueline Carey, and Terry Pratchett. Also enjoy a number of Anne McCaffrey's books, even if they have plot holes you could drive a truck through.

* Miniatures painting - originally started with Warhammer (painting up a Wood Elf army), although lately I've been painting up a few Reaper and Privateer Press models for competitions run by the local gaming store.

* Table-top roleplaying - even though I haven't done any for far too long. Moving interstate a few years ago meant losing our regular gaming group, and so far we haven't had much luck putting together a group up here. We're giving it another go, though.

* Drawing - I don't do as much of this as I used to, but I used to sketch a lot. Mostly character portraits.

Hmm... that covers the main ones, I think. As you can probably imagine, Marik and I live in a house with lots of books and cluttered surfaces. Oh, and lots of cats, but that's another story....

The intake of stories is my main hobby.

Currently, I am addicted to Netflix'ing everything ever published on DVD (lol!) and then rating/reviewing it on Flixster.com.

Also, I am into reading small books (translated into English) published by TOKYOPOP.

As soon as I can rescue my Wii from my previous place of residence... Heheh, I will intake some good ol' video game stories as well.

Traveling the world is one of my favorite ways to learn stories, but that's a long-term hobby, as it doesn't happen that often. So far, I've been to 2 countries in Central and South America, 3 in Europe, and to over 15 states in the USA. I'd like to visit Asia real soon, as well as adding more U.S. states to my list.

Traveling the wyrld is one of my favorite ways to learn stories, but that's a long-term hobby, as it doesn't happen that often. So far, I've been to 2 countries in northern Darisia, 1 in the southern parts, and currently exploring Central Darisia. I'd like to visit Elloria real soon, as well as adding some Thulean areas to my list.]

Fun? What do I do for fun? You mean besides torturing players?

Well, I kind of like riding my bike in the summer. I live a little over 20 miles form work, so the commute is invigorating. On weekends I ride a tandem with my wife.

I have been a fan of SF & F for a long time, so I am pretty well up to speed on L.E. Modessit, Jr's works, as well as John Ringo, David Weber, J. K. Rowling, and a few others.

I was into MMORPG's, but got kind of burned out on that; played Eve Online and City of Heroes. Not sure what's next in the entertainment category, so I am reading some on Nuclear Power ("Megawatts to Megatons"), and trying to keep myself physically fit. I have been known to frequent a movie theater occasionally.

Occasionally I teach chemistry at a local college or University. No commitment for this fall yet, but we shall see.
