Hoord Mountains

Situated on the southern border of Darisia, the Hoord mountains form part of the natural barrier between that land and the great emptiness of the southern plains. Looked at from above on a map, the Hoord mountains are almost perfectly circular in outline, except for the Josten spur, a range of mountains that juts out of the south east corner of the range and forms most of the southern border of Estovia.

Being as far south as they are, few if any of the Hoord mountains have snow upon them year round, although it is impossible to see into the interior of the large range to examine the central peaks. Made mostly of gray granite, the Hoord mountains are special in the fact that they lack real foothills. The surrounding plains suddenly rise up in a mountain range, forming a thick and practically impassable barrier of grey and humorless granite.

The Estovians are blessed that the Hoord mountains seem to be free of goblins and some of the other strange creatures that come down out of the Druun mountains from time to time, giving them at least one border that they need not defend.
