Age of Legends

The Age of Legends is that period of history that stretches before human reckoning, in particular, before the crowning of Ambrose Devanian, the first High King of Niellenor. As such, only one event is known with any certainty from this time period. About four years before its end, labelled 4 B.K. (Before Kings) the soon to be High King organized the fractured settlements of humanity together and routed the current residents of the land, creatures known as Chinakka.

Because humankind has very limited relations with most other races, and because most species rely on an oral rather than written history, there are few other concrete details of this time. Human historians occasionally journey north to visit the rock trolls of Trollmount, or occasionally attempt to barter bits of information from gnomes they meet. Attempting to glean history from other species has been an unmitigated failure, particularly the long lived elves.

From the rock trolls comes a memory of a time when the Chinakka moved about the land freely. Though they were by far the minority in the Wyrld, they ruled supreme. The Chinakka were creatures of a strange sort. One would describe them as humanoid serpents from a distance before coming closer and realizing that they were covered with feathers, and not scales, as first supposed.

By all accounts the Chinakka had many strange powers, although adventurers finding the ruins of old Chinakka sites have never been able to tap into the obviously magical objects they have found. Most magi believe that the Chinakka utilized a different kind of magery than is current known in the Wyrld.

To the average human who has little contact with the longer lived species of the Wyrld the Chinakka are no more a reality than other legends such as dragons and demons created to scare children or explain the mysteries of the dark.
