Gimgam, the Foreign God

The foreign god is held in particular reverence by the Vaelsh people. An artificer and a inventor, Gimgam is credited with teaching the Vaelsh the use of fire, the methods of forging iron, and how to sail upon the sea. Gimgam is not a particularly altruistic deity, but when he discovers something interesting he is filled with the need to show his discovery to someone, and other deities are usually uninterested in his latest crazy scheme. As such, Gimgam spents much time in the Wyrld, wandering about in a variety of forms to find people with imaginations that match his own.

Seat of the Faith

There are no temples to Gimgam, although shrines to the god are very common. As is typical, a temple of the faith has grown up in Menion, although the beliefs of those priests are far different from those who worship him in Vaelsh.

The wandering nature of the god and the widespread application of his gifts means that his worship is limited to no one spot. Smiths and sailors alike pray to him for inspiration or in a moment of need, as does almost anyone in need of inspiration.

Because of the deep faith many sailors have in Gimgam some converts have been made in Shurrah, particularly port cities like Coresh. The Cebretine Church persecutes known followers of Gimgam so the faith currently exists as an underground religion in that city.

Tenets, Beliefs, and Dogma

The typical place of worship for Gimgam is a small shrine made of stone, perhaps with a metal hood or other ornamentation. Many such shrines have a fire in them that is kept burning by the offerings of those who pass by, wood, oil, or other combustibles.

Gimgam is mainly able to aid those who call upon him by delivering inspiration, and that is what people ask for when they call on him. There is one topic which Gimgam will never deliver inspiration for, and that is the creation of something which kills. The foreign god sees death as the ultimate cessation of creativity which locks all things as they are. As such he loathes things which kill and always seeks to be away from them. Many believe that Gimgam is still upset that the forging techniques he showed to make horseshoes, plows, and armor were adapted to make blades and other weapons.

Relations to Other Faiths

For the most part followers of Gimgam are not organized into a church or other body and so their relation to other faiths in purely on a person by person basis. The temple in Menion gets along well with the Holy Order of the Stars, and poorly with the Cebretine Church, citing the Orders openness to new ideas and the Church lack of the same thing as the reasons. Dealings with Tahg and other strict faiths are also usually cool.

Factions and Heresies

The organized faction of this faith has somehow arrived at the idea that Gimgam is trapped in the sky, able only to send his inspiration, but unable to descend once again to reveal his latest discoveries. As such the priests of this temple are set on designing a building a massive stair, tower, or ladder that will rise into the sky and allow their god to come to them.

Followers of Gimgam from outside this temple see this as lunacy and are quite certain that this god walks the Wyrld frequently, crediting him with nearly every discovery that is made.
