2. How do I join this game?
Joining this game is pruposefully easy. If you haven't read the info on getting started you should. The quick summary is: you need to create a character and character background and submit that character to the moderators. As soon as your character is approved you're ready to play.
2.1 How do I create a character?
At first creating a character seems like a huge chore. There is an infinite number of options and choices to choose from, and of all that you've got to come up with one character. The trick is to think of a character that you can role play well. It is usually wise to incorporate at least some of your own qualities into your character. Adding small idiosyncrasies and quirks helps make a character come alive.
Once you have a name, a species, a background, some equipment, and a physical description in mind you are ready to submit you character.
2.1.1 What can my character start with?
Your character can start with only the very basics necessary for life in the Wyrld. A simple weapon or two, some clothes, a bit of money, and perhaps some light armor.
2.1.2 Where can my character be from?
Your character can be from anywhere in Darisia. This allows a nearly infinite variety of places to begin, including big cities, outpost castles, steppe nomads, and deep forests. The choice is yours.
2.1.2.1 Can I be from another world?
No. All player characters in the Wyrld must be natives Darisia.
2.1.2.1.1 Can I be from Earth?
No. While Earth may or may not be part of the Wyrldscape universe it certainly is not part of the subcontinent of Darisia.
2.1.2.1.2 Can I be a time traveller?
No. There are rumors that the most powerful Chronomancers could actually travel through time, but since all characters start of as neophytes this option is not open to you.
2.1.2.2 Can I be royalty?
Being royalty is highly discouraged, if not absolutely forbidden. It should be noted that all beginning characters start with the same items, so one would have to find a way to make a royal character relatively poor and powerless. If you choose to work royalty into your background you vastly increase the chance of your character application being rejected. Only the best backgrounds that fit in with the existing structure of the Wyrld, its nations, and the plans of the moderators will be considered for allowance.
2.1.2.3 What are some common names for each region?
Names vary drastically from place to place. The best thing to do is read about each species language and use this to determine what names would likely sound like. For example, the Vaelsh have names like Kal, Tiyr, Hildreth and Valgaron while Ellorians have names like Chmen, Thusen, Meyerla, and Reshied.
2.1.3 What skills can my character begin with?
Your character can begin with any minor skills that fit in with the background, but will not be a master of these skills. A character may begin with introductory knowledge of swordplay, archery, fire building, rope tieing, sailing, fishing, and more, as long as it fits with their background. The one skill that no character may start with is magic. Magical abilities are always learned through play.
2.1.3.1 What classes can I be?
There are no classes in Wyrldscape. A character acquires abilities according to their experiences and what they pursue, never according to some predetermined class. It is quite possible to be a priest and know no magic, to be a sorceror and an expert swordsman, or any of a million other possible combinations.
2.1.3.2 What spells can I start with?
None. All magical abilities are learned in play. You may not start with any.
2.1.4 Can my character be special?
Your character should absolutely be special and unique. This does not mean that you should expect special treatment. Rather, you should show the special nature of your character through excellent role play and determination. The moderators in Wyrldscape are more than happy to acknowledge excellent role play and creative ideas with special rewards.
Special abilities, treatment, and such are earned, and never to be expected.
2.1.5 What races/species are allowed?
The allowed species are listed in the Species section of the Compendium. Of these species any race native to Darisia is allowed. Currently the allowed species are human, elf, and dwarf.
2.1.5.1 Can I be a mixed-breed?
Since the different humanoids are actually different species, and not merely races of some overarching humanoid specie cross-breeds are very rare. In the few occurences where inter-species relationships do occur progeny are rare at best and always sterile.
Although cross-breeds are not absolutely forbidden, they are discouraged. Anyone seeking this status must demonstrate why they wish to be a cross-breed, how it will enrich the game and their own experience, and that they understand that they will likely deal with prejudice and disfavor at almost every turn.
2.1.6 Can I bring in my character from another game?
All players must begin with a new character in Wyrldscape. If it is consistent with the Wyrld you may base your character on a previous character from another game, but this does not imply any exception to the normal starting rules.
2.1.7 What deities are there?
There are many many deities in the Wyrld. The best way to learn about the various religions is to examine the sections on the various Nations and Species that reside in the Wyrld as each has a description of deities that are common to that region or culture.
2.1.7.1 Can I worship a new deity?
Your character may worship or revere whatever they wish. In some countries worshipping outside the established religion can be dangerous (whether a new diety or one from another land). It is quite likely that a deity or religion invented by a PC will not have any sort of spirit or divinity to watch over it, but one can never be certain. The moderators of Wyrldscape are always looking for an opportunity to work with an excellent role player to increase the depth of the Wyrld.
2.1.8 Are there character sheets?
Currently there are no character sheets. A form for submitting characters is being created to make it more clear which details of a character are required to begin play.
2.1.9 Are there things everyone knows?
Without a doubt. The compendium is a list of knowledge which you can choose to have your character know or not know as you please. In particular, the section titled Lore describes myths, tales, and rumors that most everyone knows.
2.1.9.1 Who are the bad guys everyone knows about?
Once again, the best way to check this out is to check the Lore section of the compendium. A reading of the Nations section will give an idea about political struggles and problems.
As a general rule, civilized nations and people in Darisia have enemies depending on their geography. Central Darisia is plagued by the feral halflings and strange beasts. Southern Darisia suffers from goblins, as well as undead near the Dread Moor. The far northern reaches have problems with goblins as well, but also suffer from large intelligent wolves known as worgs that compound the issue.
2.2 How do I get my character approved?
Once your character is completed you get it approved by mailing it to the moderators at character@wyrldscape.com. They will examine it at get back to you on short notice.
2.2.1 Where do I send my completed character?
character@wyrldscape.com is the address to which character applications are mailed.
2.2.2 What if my character is rejected?
If your character is rejected you will receive feeback as to ways in which the character was not suitable for inclusion in Wyrldscape. In general this is because the character lies outside the bounds of a beginning PC.
The usual course is to modify your character to better meld with the Wyrld and resubmit. This process is general relatively painless and the moderators do a good job of listening and understanding issues and desires relating to you character. Suggestions are made by experienced role players to help you improve your character. The end result is most always a well rounded and exciting character to play.
2.3 How many characters can I have?
Wyrldscape only allows one character per player.
