A comment on style

Although almost any way of posting in Wyrldscape will work, there is a default style which works best in several ways. If everyone is posting in the same style it helps avoid confusion, and this style also allows the plot and story of a thread to flow well from post to post.

To maximize the sense of continuity between posts it is best to write in the third person so that reading several posts in a row reads like a novel. If each post is written in first person then the point of view is changing continually, and can be confusing.

Another point that is somewhat more minor, but still important, is punctuation. Things that a person says should fall within double quotes, while other quoted passages should be left in single quotes, including thoughts and communication by means other than talking. Italics are often used to set of thoughts, foreign tongues, or special means of communication as well, but this is highly variable, and has no set standard.

An example of how a few posts written in this manner would look:

Rest and respite?

As Derk stepped into the main room of the tavern his eyes were greeted with with raucous colors. Men and women in bright reds, greens, yellows, and blues were scattered about in contrast to the drab clothing that he had seen outside in the streets.

The smell of salty overcooked meat assailed his nostrils at the same time, almost distracting him enough that he didn't notice the table in the corner at which sat four men in black, one of whom was Sal the Solicitator; almost.

Re: Rest and respite?

Derk's upper lip twisted up into a snarl as he saw Sal. 'I should just kill him now and be done with it,' the warrior thought to himself. 'Of course, I might not make it out of this place...'

Derk began to look about the room, trying to discern who was with Sal and who was not. The crime boss would certainly have more than a few people stashed about the room. Suddenly a way to figure out who is with the thief's guild and who isn't strikes Derk. "Everyone who's a thief get out!" Derk yells, his hand on his sword.

Suddenly Derk realizes that may not have been such a good idea. "Oops."
